Orvana Announces Appointment of Two Directors
TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 03/01/13 -- Orvana Minerals Corp. (TSX: ORV) ("Orvana or the Company"), is pleased to announce the addition of Michael Winship and Ed Guimaraes to the Board of Directors. The Compensation and Nominating Committee retained the services of a reputable executive search firm with the goal of identifying qualified professionals who could serve as independent directors on the Company's Board. Both professionals have the mining and Board experience that can effectively guide management in their efforts to achieve the Company's strategic goals.
Mr. Winship has over 30 years of international experience in mine development, operations, and corporate business. He was the Chief Operating Officer of Quadra FNX Mining Ltd prior to its acquisition by KGHM in 2012. He previously served as President of HudBay Minerals and Chief Operating Officer of PT International Nickel, now PT Vale. He held project and operating positions with Inco, Placer Dome, and Cominco. He is currently a Director of Rubicon Minerals Corporation and a Director of Avanti Mining Inc. Mr. Winship holds a Bachelors of Mining Engineering Degree from McGill University.
Mr. Guimaraes held management positions with Aur Resources Inc. ("Aur") between 1995 and 2007, ultimately serving as Executive Vice-President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer of the Company until Aur was acquired by Teck Resources Limited. Mr. Guimaraes is currently an independent business consultant and is a director of Nuinsco Resources Limited, Aldridge Minerals Inc., Giyani Gold Corp. and Karmin Exploration Inc. He is a Chartered Accountant and has a Bachelor of Arts in Administrative and Commercial Studies from the University of Western Ontario.
