Newcrest Mining Limited - Production Suspension at Lihir
MELBOURNE, Victoria, Aug. 28, 2012 /CNW/ - Production at the Lihir mine is currently being impacted due to LMALA, the Lihir Mining Area Landowners Association, requiring that mine production be suspended until a dispute has been resolved. The processing plant remains on stand-by and all facilities have been secured.
All stakeholders, including LMALA and representatives of the National, Provincial and Local level Government, are meeting today at Lihir to resolve the dispute.
Concurrently stakeholders are undertaking a five yearly review of the Lihir Integrated Benefits Package ("IBP"). The IBP agreements provide amongst other things for direct compensation arrangements and a range of programs for community, social and infrastructure development.
Newcrest is striving for the prompt resolution of the matter and resumption of production.
