Adroit Resources Inc. Releases Video on Mining in Italy and Adroit's Antimony Project
In an interview the President of Grosseto Province Leonardo Marras discusses his hopes for the future of mining. The President stated: "I welcome the recommencement of metal mining... in a more environmentally sustainable manner than in the past, to give the territory a new era of prosperity and economic revival. Metal mining and processing could well become an important part of our local economy."
Stressing the fact that Grosseto Province also has operating mines, Gianluca Corbelli, Councillor and representative of the Commune of Scansano, affirms, "The population here still has a strong mining tradition with a mining background and we are pleased to offer political support as the Adroit antimony project progresses."
Grosseto Province was until fairly recently a world significant producer of antimony. The area has since suffered from de-industrialisation, resulting in high levels of unemployment. All of those interviewed expressed their support on the recommencement of metal mining, with a particular focus on antimony.
When China quadrupled production in the 80s and 90s it led to a depression in antimony prices and the closure of the Grosseto Province antimony mining. China is still the world's leading producer of antimony, accounting for approximately 90% of world production, however in a recently published global survey US Geological Survey reported that China's largest antimony mine is likely to come to the end of its productive life in 5 years and that reserves in China as a whole are expected to be depleted in the next 12 years. China has introduced export restrictions and import subsidies for antimony.
Commenting on the video President Rowland said: "Grosseto and Siena Provinces are two mining friendly areas with mines currently in production (shown in video) and local institutions eager to recommence metal mining. The video shows that our Italian permits are surrounded by many mining settlements and that we have significant historic resources that affirm we are in an area rich in antimony. We now want to expand our historic resources. We estimate that we will be able to start confirmatory drilling this fall and we look forward to presenting a NI 43-101 compliant resource in the middle of 2013."
The video was created by Viral Network, Tara Sweder, who has covered mining stories from across the world, paying her first working visit to Italy. The video has been released today on Vimeo and officially presented to the European Institutions and the Tuscan Region.
