African Copper Plc: New Amendment to Thakadu Mining Licence
In the statements accompanying the financial statements for the year ended 31 March 2011, the Company stated that following the receipt of a Mining Licence for Thakadu in December 2010, the goal was to 'receive permission under the issued Mining Licence to mine out the ore reserve directly underneath the Thakadu archaeological site by open pit means.' The archeological site at Thakadu was excluded from the initial Mining Licence.
The Company has now received such permission from the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources of the Government of the Republic of Botswana. As a result, African Copper will now be able to mine out all of the resources in the Thakadu Mining permit by open pit means.
Notes to Editors: African Copper Plc is an AIM and Botswana listed copper producer and exploration company, currently focused on Botswana. The CompanyΓ?s flagship projects are the copper producing open pits at the Mowana Mine and Thakadu deposit. Both deposits are situated on the highly prospective Matsitama belt, located close to Botswana's second largest city, Francistown, in the north-eastern part of the country.
