Orocan Resource Corp. Announces Airborne EM has Commenced in Ontario
The three (3) properties are located some 100 km WSW of Ottawa, in Renfrew County, and were acquired during the fall of 2011 (see Press Release November 30, 2011) for their graphite potential. The Black Donald property immediately surrounds the former Black Donald Mine that has produced an important quantity of high-grade and high purity graphite between 1896 and 1950. Graphite has historically also been reported at several locations on the current claim block and was drill tested in 1982. The two (2) other properties, Little-Bryan and Lyndoch, are also centered on known graphite occurrences and have been exposed to limited exploration through trenching and shallow diamond drilling.
The airborne survey consists in flying some 1492 line kilometres at low altitude to measure the bedrock conductivity (TDEM) and magnetic properties. Graphite is a mineral with unique physical properties and is well known for its high conductivity. The survey has been designed to optimize the response from potential conductors and to discriminate between the types of conductors. A preliminary test was conducted on the ground using a portable EM instrument and the known graphite horizons on the Little-Bryan property were successfully located and measured. The TDEM instrument used in the airborne survey is equivalent although more powerful to the one used during the ground test. Results from the airborne survey are expected in January and will form the backbone of the upcoming prospecting, trenching and drilling programs planned for 2012.
