Curis Welcomes Supportive Remarks by Arizona State Governor Jan Brewer on the Florence Copper Project
VANCOUVER, Aug. 3, 2011 /CNW/ --
VANCOUVER, Aug. 3, 2011 /CNW/ - Curis Resources Ltd. ('Curis' or the
'Company') (TSX: CUV) acknowledges and welcomes the remarks made by
Arizona State Governor Jan Brewer in support of the Company's flagship
Florence Copper Project that were delivered at a supporter event held
in Florence, Arizona last evening.
More than 70 local business leaders were joined by Governor Jan Brewer
and other State, County and Town officials at an evening event in
Florence to celebrate the 5 C's (copper, cattle, citrus, cotton and
climate) of Arizona and to rally in support of the Florence Copper
Project.
As Governor Brewer stated in her remarks, 'Copper mining has long been a key industry in Arizona and we need to
make sure we continue that tradition.' Governor Brewer went on to say, 'Companies like Curis want to invest in and develop these copper
resources, bringing thousands of well-paying jobs to the area and
millions of much-needed dollars in government revenue.'
'We are heartened by the support of the local business community and are
excited that they were able to hear from Governor Brewer about why our
project is so important to the state,' said Michael McPhie, President and CEO of Curis Resources.
Considering the enormous support in the business community, Mr. McPhie
added, 'Copper is the key to so many things in our society today, from cell
phones, the wiring of new homes to wind turbines, and as the demand
grows, America needs to keep pace. For Curis, our goal is to work with
local business owners and managers, as well as local residents, to
bring new jobs and economic opportunity to the communities of Florence
and Pinal County, while providing this strategic commodity to the state
and nation's economy.'
As was recently discussed (see July 20, 2011 Curis Press Release)
Florence Copper is an advanced stage in-situ copper recovery project
that is advancing towards an anticipated start of construction and
development in the beginning of 2012. As part of preparing for the
first phase of development, Curis has been undertaking a comprehensive
community outreach program. This work includes holding a number of
open houses, hosting site tours of project facilities every two weeks,
establishing community partnerships with key civic and business
organizations and building educational partnerships with local schools
and community colleges.
'We want to be viewed as having a positive and constructive influence in
the area and are working hard to establish a number of long term
partnerships with community organizations,' said Mr. McPhie. 'Estimated to be one of the lowest cost copper mining projects in the
world, Florence Copper represents a tremendous opportunity to both
advance the practice of how copper is extracted safely and profitably
in Arizona and provide multi generational opportunities to the
residents of the area.'
