Curis Resources Ltd. Hires Successful Industry Veteran to Lead Development of the Florence Copper Project

VANCOUVER, Sept. 28 /CNW/ - Vancouver-based Curis Resources Ltd. announced today that it has hired Mr. Mel Lawson as the Company's new Vice President of Project Development. Mr. Lawson's career in the mining industry spans more than 40 years. He comes to Curis from QuadraFNX, where he most recently served as Engineering Manager for the Sierra Gorda Copper Project in Chile.

In his new role at Curis, Mr. Lawson will be responsible for the successful planning and development of the world-class Florence Copper Project in central Arizona, and for overseeing subsequent mineral projects pursued by Curis in the future. Mr. Lawson has extensive career experience in mining project development and operations, spanning more than 40 years. He has worked on an array of international projects throughout Canada, the United States and New Zealand.

Mr. Lawson holds a BSc in Mining Engineering and has built his career around mine start-ups, operations and projects, with proven experience in underground and surface operations, project management and construction. He possesses strong operational and technical abilities with hands-on experience in major project management, Feasibility Studies, project permitting, contract preparation, project and construction management, project start-up, policy development and administration. His work has involved extensive government relations and community engagement with respect to developing new projects, which when combined with his extensive technical and management capabilities, make him an ideal addition to the Curis team driving the Florence Copper Project forward towards production.

Prior to his position with QuadraFNX as Engineering Manager for the Sierra Gorda Project in Chile, Mr. Lawson held senior management positions for many years with global mining leaders Rio Tinto and Newmont Mining Corp. Prior to that, he was with Royal Oak Mines, Coeur d'Alene Mines Corp, Stillwater Mining Company, Exxon Minerals Company, White Pine Copper Company, Sunshine Mining Company, and Bunker Hill Company with which he started his career.

Mr. Lawson and his family will be relocating to Arizona to help reinforce Curis' already strong local community presence.
