Midland Expands Strategic Land Holdings East of Detour Lake and Commences Helicopter-Borne Magnetic Survey on Casault
MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwire) -- 03/16/11 -- Midland Exploration Inc. ('Midland') (TSX VENTURE: MD) is pleased to announce the acquisition, by map staking, of 130 new claims located in the vicinity of the major Sunday Lake Deformation Zone, as well as the commencement of an extensive helicopter-borne magnetic survey on its Casault Property. With these new acquisitions, Midland now controls over 20 kilometres along the major Sunday Lake Deformation Zone, about 45 kilometres east of the Detour Lake ore deposit located in Ontario and held by Detour Gold Corporation. This major gold deposit hosts an aggregate 20.5 million ounces of gold in measured and indicated resources, based on a cut-off grade of 0.5 g/t Au, including 14.9 million ounces of gold in near-surface mineral reserves, and commercial production is expected to begin in early 2013 (source: Detour Gold Corporation website and press release dated January 31, 2011).
The new claims recently acquired by Midland cover the direct extension of an important gold-bearing structure that graded, in historical drill holes, up to 4.3 g/t Au over 12.2 metres and 3.7 g/t Au over 4.0 metres (source: MRNF SIGEOM NTS sheets 32E14 and 32E15). In addition, a grade of 6.1 g/t Au was obtained from glacial sediment analyses during a reverse circulation drilling program conducted east of Riviere Harricana (source: MRNF SIGEOM NTS sheet 32L02).
On its Casault Property, Midland has commissioned Geophysics GPR International Inc. to carry out a helicopter-borne magnetic survey totalling about 1,300 line kilometres along flight lines spaced every 100 metres. This magnetic survey will provide valuable input to clarify the geological and structural framework of the Casault Property.
The Casault Property is adjacent to the west of the Martiniere property held by Balmoral Resources Ltd, where drill intersections grading 2.4 g/t Au over 72.0 metres, including a high-grade interval at 11.18 g/t Au over 12.0 metres, were recently reported (source: Balmoral Resources Ltd press release dated March 2, 2011). The Casault Property is located about 140 kilometres north of La Sarre in Quebec. It now consists of a total of 280 wholly-owned claims covering a total surface area of about 156 square kilometres.
