Great Lakes Graphite Micronization Facility Ready for Re-Start

11.11.2015  |  Marketwire

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Nov 11, 2015) - Great Lakes Graphite Inc. ("GLK" or the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:GLK)(OTC PINK:GLKIF)(FRANKFURT:8GL) announced today that preparations at the Matheson Micronization Facility for recommissioning are nearing completion. The three 300HP micronization units were returned to the Facility this week following their refurbishment by the original equipment manufacturer, Classifier Milling Systems, in Orangeville, Ontario. The units were modified to include additional grinding hammers and to be capable of faster rotation in order to achieve the very fine micron grades GLK will be producing for its North American customers.

In addition, the Company took delivery this week of a 27600 volt to 600 volt transformer which will enable the connection of the Facility to the electrical grid. Photographs of these activities are posted on the website: http://www.greatlakesgraphite.com/?page_id=2391

Great Lakes COO Jerry Janik commented on the progress at the facility, stating "With the mills back in place and now capable of high-speed production, the Company is now positioned to complete all of the tasks required through re-commissioning of the Facility. Design of plant operations and plans for refurbishing and restarting the mill are being done in accordance with lean principles thereby positioning the project for early success and maximum efficiency. The first shipment of -100 mesh +95% C(g) graphite feedstock is currently at the facility and will be processed upon receiving the Air & Noise permit amendment."

Mechanical work and modification at the Matheson plant, including preparations for re-installation of the CMS units, ducting, cyclone installation, and other general mechanical and repair work required to bring the facility to operational capacity have been underway for the past several months. Completion of the electrical upgrades and components will now enable the proper supply of lighting, power and heating to the mill. A primary focus of the mill refurbishment has been efficiency, an example being the LED lighting chosen for the interior of the Facility that provides excellent lighting while consuming only minimal power.

CEO Paul Gorman said, "We have been working as quickly as possible over the past eight months to capitalize on an opportunity to enter the value-added graphite products market and begin generating revenue in the near term. Much of that work has now been successfully completed and we are ready to move into the next phase. We are grateful to the local businesses including our construction partners who have been working closely with us to prepare the Facility and also to the community of Matheson for their ongoing enthusiasm and support."
