Nouveau Monde: Summer Exploration Results on Matawinie Graphite Property Including 25.8m Grading 5.1% Cg in Trenching

23.09.2014  |  Marketwire

GATINEAU, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Sep 23, 2014) - Nouveau Monde Mining Enterprises Inc. ("Nouveau Monde") (TSX VENTURE:NOU)(PINKSHEETS:NMGRF) is pleased to report the assay results of its 2014 prospecting and channel sampling exploration program on the Matawinie graphite Property located in the St-Michel-des-Saints area, some 140 km North of Montreal, Québec. The field work, conducted intermittently from May to July targeted unexplored electromagnetic anomalies generated by a regional airborne geophysical survey carried-out earlier this year by Nouveau-Monde (see March 7th and April 4th, 2014 press releases for details).

GRAB SAMPLES ON FOXTROT, HOTEL AND INDIA BLOCKS

During the 2014 summer program, a total of 40 grab samples from graphite-bearing paragneiss outcrop and subcrop was collected during the 2014 summer program over three of the claim blocks included in the Matawinie Property. Of those grab samples, thirteen (13) returned significant results (see Table 1) ranging from 5.12 % graphitic carbon (or "Cg") to 13.7 % Cg (significant results are defined as greater than 5 % Cg). These results further expand the graphite mineralization observed during the last two years on the ten claim blocks composing the Matawinie property. To see the map of all significant grab samples taken to date on the project, go to: www.nouveaumonde.ca/documents/matawinie/2012-2014_Grab_Samples_20140922.pdf.

201429 5.27 Hotel

1053907 5.12 Foxtrot

*All analyses were performed by ALS Minerals Laboratories and delivered as graphitic carbon (Cg), internal analytical code C-IR18.

CHANNEL SAMPLING ON HOTEL BLOCK

Following encouraging prospecting results and geophysical ground surveying (see July 8th press release), a trenching and channel sampling program was initiated on the property's Hotel block. A total of four (4) trenches were sampled, with the best interval returning 5.1 % Cg over 25.8 m. Samples, each measuring approximately 2 m in length, 4 cm in width, and 10 cm in height, were collected in surface trenches. Trench results are available below (Table 2).

Table 2: Summary of results from the channel samples collected over the four trenches located on the Hotel Block, Matawinie Property.

Trench ID From (m) To (m) Total Interval
Length (m)
% Cg over Interval*
TR-1 0 46 46 4.3
TR-2 0 22 22 5.7
TR-3 0 15 15 4.2
TR-3 17 23 6 4.0
TR-3 26 28 2 9.3
TR-3 41 57 16 5.8
TR-4 0 25.8 25.8 5.1

* Interval length does not represent true width. All analyses were performed by ALS Minerals Laboratories and delivered as graphitic carbon (Cg), internal analytical code C-IR18.

The trenches and channels were oriented approximately perpendicular to the foliation with the exception of TR-1 which runs approximately at a 45 degree angle to the foliation. Trenches were all accessed using existing forestry roads and they are all on public land within 6.5 km of the town of Saint-Michel-des-Saints. Trenches TR-1, TR-3 and TR-4 are all located along a 4 km long time domain electromagnetic anomaly. Nouveau-Monde recently acquired 33 additional claims on the Hotel Block to add to its land position in the area. A map showing the trench locations and results for the Hotel block is available at the following link: http://www.nouveaumonde.ca/documents/matawinie/Matawinie_H_Block_20140922.pdf

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MATAWINIE GRAPHITE PROPERTY

  • 10 blocks of claims covering an area roughly 80 km by 60 km and containing over 30 linear km of electromagnetic anomalies representing prospective graphite targets.
  • 49 grab samples collected by Nouveau-Monde in the area since 2013 returned over 5 % Cg.
  • Drilling at the Ti-Nou mineralized zone gave 12.2 % Cg over 17.32 m (drill hole TN-01).
  • Drilling at the Gros-Nou mineralized zone returned 10.5 % Cg over 5.79 m (drill hole GN-03) and 3.4% Cg over 42 m (drill hole GN-01).
  • Trenching on the Hotel block electromagnetic anomaly returned 5.7 % Cg over 22 m.
  • Metallurgical tests conducted at SGS Lakefield from the Ti-Nou mineralized zone measured 18.2% Ct (carbon total) in the raw material and produced a graphite concentrate which was 95.9% pure and contained an average of 17.9% jumbo flakes larger than 48 mesh and 44.9% larger than 100 mesh.

QUALITY CONTROL AND QUALITY ASSURANCE

The 2014 Matawinie property exploration program was supervised by Antoine Cloutier, Géo (Québec), B.Sc. A strict protocol including the insertion of duplicate samples within the sample stream was adopted as part of a quality assurance, quality control (or QA/QC) program. Duplicate sample results returned values within acceptable limits. Verification, preparation and sample submittal for the prospecting and channel samples presented here were completed by M. Cloutier.

All samples were thoroughly washed and individually bagged prior to shipping. Samples were analyzed for graphitic carbon (Cg) content by a LECO analyzer (ALS code; C-IR18) at the ALS Minerals laboratory located in North Vancouver (B-C), Canada. This laboratory is accredited with the ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 17025 certifications.

The technical information in this news release was prepared by Antoine Cloutier, geo, chief geologist for Nouveau Monde and reviewed by Eric Desaulniers, MSc, geo, President and CEO of Nouveau Monde who acts as qualified persons under National Instrument 43-101.
