IP Survey Yields High Priority Drill Target at Copper King Project, Arizona

12.08.2014  |  Marketwire

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Aug 12, 2014) - Desert Star Resources Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:DSR) ("Desert Star" or the "Company") announces that it has completed an Induced Polarization ("IP") Geophysical survey (performed by Zonge International) at its Copper King project in Arizona (Figure 1). The survey identified coincident chargeability and resistivity anomalies measuring approximately 2,700 meters long, extending from surface to a depth greater than 600 meters (Figures 2 and 3). These anomalies are significant because they are located within a zone of intense alteration (including quartz-sericite-pyrite and D-veins) that is consistent with the geology typically seen in the upper parts of porphyry copper systems.

Copper King Survey Details and Results

The Copper King survey consisted of Pole-dipole IP/Resistivity data using a dipole-length (a-spacing) of 300 meters. Measurements were made for continuous coverage (n=15) in time domain mode using a 0.125 Hz, 50 percent duty-cycle transmitter waveform. Instrumentation consisted of a Zonge GDP-32II, multi-channel receiver. The signal source was a Zonge GGT-30, 10 KVA transmitter powered by a ZMG-30 Kw or ZMG-9 Kw motor generator.

The IP survey at Copper King produced two high quality anomalies (Figures 2 and 3) consisting of chargeability highs (greater than 20 msec) (Figure 3A) coincident with resistivity low features (Figure 3B). The combined anomalies measure approximately 2,700 meters in length when projected to surface and are present beyond the depth of the survey (approximately 600 meters) (Figures 2 and 3). The anomalies identified by the survey are open to the southwest, coalesce at depth, appear to plunge toward the southwest, and are interpreted to be caused by disseminated sulphides, which is consistent with mineralization associated with porphyry copper systems.

About IP Geophysics

Induced polarization is a ground-based electrical geophysical method that can be used to map subsurface geology and in some cases can detect mineralization. Induced polarization occurs when a current passing through two electrodes in the Earth is shut off and the voltage in the ground decays slowly rather than instantaneously, which indicates that a charge has been stored in the rocks. The presence of clay minerals and metallic-luster sulphide minerals including major copper ore minerals in the subsurface can cause this phenomenon. IP is frequently used in mineral exploration for porphyry copper deposits as it assists in the delineation of areas of disseminated sulphide mineralization, and helps vector exploration drilling into the core of the system.

About the Copper King Project

The Copper King project covers 1,398 hectares and consists of 189 unpatented federal lode mining claims located approximately 5 kilometers from the world-class Resolution Copper Project and the town of Superior. The Copper King project is prospective for bulk tonnage copper and molybdenum mineralization. Alteration zonation and surface geology suggest that the Copper King target represents the side and/or top of a tilted, intact porphyry system. The Copper King project is under option from Eurasian Minerals Inc. (TSX VENTURE:EMX)(NYSE MKT:EMXX). The Company cautions that it is not implying that it will receive the same or similar results as the Resolution Copper Project.
