Patriot Coal Announces Award-Winning Results In 2013 Biennial National Mine Rescue Contest

ST. LOUIS, Sept. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Patriot Coal Corp. (OTC: PCXCQ) today announced that its mine rescue teams once again achieved outstanding results at the National Mine Rescue Contest sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor.  The competition included 87 teams from across the country.

The Company's Western Kentucky team placed second in the mine rescue competition and the bench competition, and third in the combination event.  Patriot's Federal team placed third in the mine rescue event.  In the associated state championships, the Western Kentucky team placed first for Kentucky in both the mine rescue and the bench competitions.  In the West Virginia awards, the Company's Federal team placed first in the combination event, and its Southern Appalachia team took first place in the first aid competition. 

Patriot's mine rescue teams are under the direction of G. Frank Foster, Patriot Director of Safety Compliance, who was recently inducted into the Coal Mine Rescue Hall of Fame.
