Nickel North Exploration: $5 Million Hawk Ridge Exploration Program Successfully Completed
New Discovery of Falco 7 Mineralized Zone
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Sep 10, 2013) - Nickel North Exploration Corp. (TSX VENTURE:NNX) (the "Company" or "Nickel North") is pleased to announce the successful completion of its $5 Million 2013 integrated drilling, geophysical, and geological program at its 100% owned Hawk Ridge Ni-Cu-PGE Project in Northern Quebec. This year's exploration program was initiated on May 26th with diamond drilling commencing on June 6th with a second drill added at the mid-season sealift. The helicopter supported program consisted of 7,330 meters of diamond drilling in 38 drill holes, complimentary ground geophysical programs (CRONE Pulse EM and "Walkmag" Magnetometer surveys) with requisite field mapping and prospecting.
This year's program focused on two of the largest stratiform layered mineralized zones (Hopes Advance Main and Gamma) and regional exploration following up on numerous new targets selected from proprietary geophysical algorithms applied to the 2012 VTEM Airborne Survey. The diamond drilling program consisted of 38 drill holes totaling 7,330 meters. The drilling included 1,350 meters (4 drill-holes) in the historical Hopes Advance Main Zone and 1,240 meters (5 drill-holes) in the Gamma Zone, 1,300 meters (8 drill-holes) in regional exploration and 3,430 meters (21 drill-holes) in the newly discovered Falco 7 Zone.
The company's geochemical protocol includes sampling the entire length of the drill core (greater than 7,600 samples collected) is being assayed. The geophysical program comprised of five ground Pulse EM grids and two high resolution ground magnetic surveys were completed. Bore-Hole EM geophysics was completed in all available drill holes.
In August the Company initiated a metallurgical study and a 43-101 resource study, both of which are expected to be completed in the fall of this year. The Metallurgical study is to be completed by "XPS Consulting and Testwork Services" of Falconbridge, Ontario and the 43-101 Resource Study will be completed by "P&E Mining Consultants" of Toronto, Ontario.
The Falco 7 Zone is located less than 3 kilometers from tide water in the northern portion of the Hawk Ridge Ni-Cu-PGE Belt. The new mineralized zone has a minimum strike length of 1.2 kilometer striking north-south and is over 600 meters in width with a gentle 18° eastward dip that is open at depth down dip. The zone was identified early in the season through the interpretation of the 2012 airborne VTEM survey and later confirmed from ground follow-up work which led to the discovery of surface exposures of mineralized boulders and outcrop. The zone was mapped on surface and aggressively drilled with 21 holes outlining a series of highly mineralized zones comprising ultramafic and mafic zones. Mineralization at Falco 7 is similar to what has been encountered in the other major Hawk Ridge Ni-Cu-PGE mineralized zones such as Gamma and Hopes Advance Main. However, the exception at Falco 7 is the wide spread and consistent nature of the amount of magmatic sulphide encountered; comprising of interstitial to semi massive to massive magmatic sulphides, and the zone's near-surface, shallow dipping nature of the mineralized stratigraphy.
The company considers this year's program a very successful exploration season. Significant progress was made in all aspects of the Cu-Ni-PGE Hawk Ridge Project including the discovery of a new mineralized zone called "Falco7". The Company's service providers were once again highly effective with overall cost efficiencies and project effectiveness surpassing the planned drilling meterage and was completed under budget. Assays are pending and will be announced as received and appropriately reviewed and compiled.
