North American Nickel to Host Exploration and Mining Educational Lectures in Greenland and Denmark featuring Dr. Tony Naldrett

03.09.2013  |  Marketwire

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Sep 3, 2013) - North American Nickel Inc. (TSX VENTURE:NAN)(OTCBB:WSCRF) (CUSIP: 65704T 108) (the "Company") is pleased to announce it has arranged a series of exploration and mining related educational lectures in Nuuk, Greenland and Copenhagen, Denmark headlined by Dr. Tony Naldrett, an internationally recognized expert in the field of nickel sulphide mineralization. The exploration and mining education lectures will take place on September 18 and 20, 2013, as part of the Company's long term local engagement strategy for its 100% owned Maniitsoq nickel-copper-cobalt-platinum group metal project.

Tony has authored or co-authored over 240 refereed papers and 8 books and has supervised 15 M.Sc. and 16 Ph.D. students and 15 Postdoctoral Fellows with focus on magmatic nickel, copper and platinum-group element sulphide deposits, worldwide. He was Professor of Geology at the University of Toronto from 1967 to 1998 and his impressive career is summarized at:

www.d.umn.edu/prc/advisors/Biographical%20Sketches/Anthony%20Naldrett.pdf

Tony states "Western Greenland shares much of its geology with that of Canada just across the Davis Straight and Labrador Sea. This part of Canada is renowned for the nickel sulphide camps of Raglan and Voisey's Bay and it is logical to anticipate that similar deposits exist on the Greenland side. Both Canadian deposits have provided a great source of jobs for local people and a similar deposit(s) in Greenland would contribute greatly to Greenland's economy."

The additional speakers are from the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland, academia and the mineral exploration and mining industry; all have first hand technical knowledge of Greenland geology and its mineral endowment. The lectures are being financially supported by Presenting Sponsors North American Nickel, VMS Ventures and The Sentient Group; Corporate Sponsors Condor Consulting Inc., Westcore Drilling, Xploration Services Greenland; and Contributing Sponsor ALS Laboratories,

The Greenlandic government's policy and over whelming community support for the ongoing education of its youth is a matter of national priority and pride. As such, the objective of the lectures is to generate interest for the current and future generations of students, as well as today's working population in Greenland regarding the variety of long term job opportunities related to the mining industry, including technical, administrative and financial professions, as well as the more traditional "on the ground" jobs directly related to exploration and mining.

In the longer term, and with exploration success, North American Nickel's Maniitsoq nickel sulphide project will require an educated and trained work force and it is best suited if a large portion of this work force is locally sourced, trained and educated while at the same time supported from within the EU and internationally. The lecture series is a first step to attract local and international students and workers to the Greenland mining industry. Dr. Mark Fedikow, North American Nickel's President, is leading the Company's local engagement initiatives.

The Greenland presentations will be delivered to senior high school students in Nuuk and to the students at ARTEK, the Arctic Technology Centre at Sisimiut, by Tony Naldrett and North American Nickel's Chief Geologist John Pattison. In Denmark, the lecture series will be presented in the GeoCenter at the University of Denmark in Copenhagen

About North American Nickel

North American Nickel is a mineral exploration company with 100% owned properties in Maniitsoq, Greenland, Sudbury, Ontario, and the Thompson, Manitoba nickel belt. VMS Ventures Inc. (TSX VENTURE:VMS) owns approximately 27.5% of NAN.

The Maniitsoq property in Greenland is a Camp scale project comprising 5,106 square km's covering numerous high-grade nickel-copper sulphide occurrences associated with norite and other mafic-ultramafic intrusions of the Greenland Norite Belt (GNB). The 70km plus long belt is situated along, and near, the southwest coast of Greenland, which is pack ice free year round.

The first two discoveries of economic mineralization at Imiak Hill and Spotty Hill confirm the high value and potential of the GNB.

The Post Creek/Halcyon property in Sudbury is strategically located adjacent to the producing Podolsky copper-nickel-platinum group metal deposit of Quadra FNX Mining. The property lies along the extension of the Whistle Offset dyke structure. Such geological structures host major Ni-Cu-PGM deposits and producing mines within the Sudbury Camp.
