TRADING SYMBOL: TSX: R
TORONTO, July 22, 2013 /CNW/ - Romarco Minerals Inc. (TSX: R) (the "Company") is pleased to announce that the US Army Corps of Engineers ("Corps") has issued the public notice for an upcoming community meeting on the Environmental Impact Statement ("EIS") on August 20, 2013 in Kershaw, SC. Participants will have the opportunity to see a presentation of the proposed mine plan, the EIS schedule and other project milestones; discuss the alternatives evaluation for the project and the proposed mitigation plan; and, receive an update on groundwater modeling efforts. The Corps has indicated that the draft Alternatives Development and Evaluation Report will be published on August 5, 2013 in advance of the community meeting. The alternatives evaluation is a key milestone in the Haile Gold Mine EIS process.
The Company recently submitted a revised wetlands and stream mitigation plan that supersedes the previously submitted conceptual mitigation plan. The mitigation plan is built on protection of outstanding aquatic, cultural and historic resources on three key parcels of property that the Company currently has under its control. The mitigation plan can be viewed in its entirety at www.hailegoldmineeis.com.
Diane Garrett, President & CEO commented: "We are extremely pleased with the progress that is being made on both the Federal and State permitting tracks and are especially pleased that the alternatives evaluation, which is the heart of the EIS according to the National Environmental Policy Act, will be published in early August - well in advance of the Draft EIS which is scheduled to be published in March 2014."
The Federal 404 Wetlands permit is the only Federal permit Romarco requires for the Haile project. The Corps is the federal agency regulating 404 permits.
The Company has filed applications for several of the required state regulated permits including its State Mine Operating permit, National Pollution Discharge Elimination System permit, 401 Water Quality Certification, Air Quality permit, and Dam Safety permit for the proposed tailing storage facility. The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control ("SCDHEC") is the regulatory agency responsible for processing and issuing state permits.
