The town of Wabush rescinded their emergency evacuation order and reduced the threat level back to an evacuation alert. Cliffs called back workers on Monday, July 1, and the Scully mine is now fully operational.
During the natural disaster, Cliffs employees stabilized and protected the mining operation. In addition, the Company worked in partnership with Wabush authorities to provide volunteer assistance and heavy equipment to create a firebreak for the town at a safe distance from the fire. Cliffs also provided support with housing and cafeteria availability in Wabush and Fermont to local citizens that evacuated their homes over the weekend.
Cliffs employs nearly 500 people at its Wabush Scully mine. The mine and plant are located in the town of Wabush in Labrador.
