TomaGold to Drill 2,000 Metres on Winchester
MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwired) -- 05/16/13 -- TomaGold Corporation (TSX VENTURE: LOT) ("TomaGold" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that it will start a 2,000-metre drilling program in late May on its Winchester property, which lies immediately south-southwest of the Monster Lake property near Quebec's Chibougamau mining camp.
The goal of the program is to use the knowledge gained at Monster Lake to test the lateral and depth extensions of Structure 86, which has not yet been drilled at depth. The drilling program will take place in parallel with any prospecting and stripping work called for.
Winchester Property Highlights
-- Geophysics: Mag and MaxMin ground surveys in the 1990s
-- SOQUEM drilling program (1991): 3 holes totalling 526 m
-- SOQUEM drilling program (1994-95): 4 holes totalling 771 m
-- SOQUEM drilling program (2001-02): 9 holes totalling 1,737 m
-- No work from 2002 to 2013
The geological setting of the Winchester property is similar to that of Monster Lake, and represents the continuity of the 325, Megane and Gabriel zones to the south-southwest. The mineralization also occurs in a volcanoclastic and graphite tuff unit encased in mafic volcanic rocks.
The three SOQUEM drilling programs essentially tested MEH (MaxMin) conductors and key magnetic anomalies. The last program, in 2002, identified a new structure, "86", associated with a layer of altered volcanoclastics more than 80 metres thick injected with pyrite-bearing quartz-calcite veins. The anomalous gold values are in the graphitic tuffs. Holes 993-01-86 and 993-02-88 were of particular interest, with grades of 0.24 g/t Au over 80.4 m (including 0.54 g/t Au over 22.0 m) and 0.30 g/t Au over 70.0 m (including 2.35 g/t Au over 7.4 m, 13.85 g/t Au over 1.0 m and 0.0 g/t Au over 22.4 m (section not sampled)). These two holes were drilled 100 metres apart along strike.
David Grondin, President and Chief Executive Officer of TomaGold, said that: "We are excited to be starting drilling on our wholly-owned Winchester property. The advantage of Structure 86, which has been intersected over a length of 80 metres, is that it is located on the same gold corridor as the 325 zone at Monster Lake. Very little work has been done on this property in the past, and in light of previous results and the results obtained at Monster Lake, it has excellent discovery potential."
